A school of excellence
Our school will provide a happy, safe and rich environment where young people are encouraged to develop, achieve and maximise their potential through quality learning experiences. Our goal is to engage young people in their education through active learning where appropriate learning opportunities are created for all.
We believe that Pedagogy is at the heart of 'Learning and Teaching' and that the term, for us, has a broad meaning with a focus on the "whole" child (their social, emotional and cultural needs as well as their education) where active, participative learning is the key to engaging our young learners and offers us a tremendous opportunity to enhance our young peoples life chances.
We believe that appropriate, effective pedagogies which support the continuous development of knowledge, understanding and skills of our young people are vital. The staff work cooperatively in teams across the curriculum enabling teachers and carers to plan together, monitor progress and achieve the best possible outcomes.
At Merrick we strive to nurture confidence and success in learning about the world. Teaching young people respect for self and others and their interdependence with other members of the community by modelling it amongst ourselves.
Ethos and Values
Ethos is of extreme importance for promoting achievement and at Merrick we work hard to create a culture in school where every individual feels valued, supported and able to achieve to the very best of their ability. more
