Ethos and Values

A strong sense of community provides opportunities of celebrating success.  Pastoral and educational aspects are closely linked and can be all encompassing. Rewards of praise and tangible rewards such as money received from the sale of workshop items being banked towards holidays, meals out, golf, fishing, day sailing, and outings of their choice are all part of acknowledging and developing self esteem.

Key to supporting the motivation and interest of all is a broad and balanced curriculum where basic skills in Literacy and Numeracy are supported and enriched by a wide range of subjects encouraging all our young peoples interests and strengths, developing their unique talents, aspirations, independence and motivation.

The values of the school are reflected in our aims. Working together to achieve an appropriate and successful education for all pupils is paramount. Young people, parents, carers and all involved with the pupil are important partners in the process. Partnership working along with communication is vital in achieving the very best outcomes we can for our young people.

`The message is clear. If we want to achieve our desired educational outcomes then the three educational message systems, Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Assessment need to be brought into line’.

In order to achieve the above we believe that the Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment need to be rigorous and relevant for each young person.

As already stated our services are referred the most challenging of ‘looked after ‘ young people all of whom have had sporadic periods in education and for whom ‘School’ has significant negative connotations. It is our belief that our vision along with the above will enable our young people to

………accomplish things that will make the whole world wonder.’
