Therapeutic Practice
Apart from specific therapies which may take place with individuals or in groups, [we are, for instance, the only residential child care organization pioneering Dance and Movement Psychotherapy] it is the most essential part of what we do to create a total structure which is in every detail therapeutic.
This is in the sense that our work with the children is constantly seeking to understand, through the experience of everyday life, the difficulties that emotionally hurt and deprived children bring with them, and to strive to offer compensatory experiences for the harm that has been done to them and to provide opportunities for growth.
It is essential that this environment is planned and structured for this to take place. But the therapeutic interactions themselves cannot be planned. For instance a group session may be planned and prepared but what will happen within that structure is unpredictable and often surprising. More...
