Common Thread
Care

Common Thread provides short, med and long term houses spread out over Dumfries & Galloway and further north in Scotland's central belt.

All these services offer round the clock care for children who are subject to care orders having experienced a placement breakdown and need a longer term solution or simply in need of shorter term respite.

In our Short term service we offer small houses for up to three young people at a time. These are created around the principles that young people who are in crisis cannot be expected to positively contribute to their future and make decisions until they have been given time to gain some trust and adjust to their circumstances, including their new environment. They need skillful ways of enabling them to see the benefits of taking some level of responsibility for themselves and their actions.

Common Threads first long/med term residential home was Dalveen Farmhouse near Thornhill in Dumfries and Galloway. Nestled protectively in the Lowther hills it offers a wonderful opportunity for those who stay with us to develop and grow. Dalveen has already proved its worth to the young people staying there. They have fabulous resources at their disposal. These include educational assessments through Merrick School, a range of therapies, music, pottery, educational support to name a few. Not to mention our professional team who work unceasingly to maintain a stable home environment.

We have two more homes in the central belt of Scotland. The first is a fabulous old Farm house, with cobbled court yard and surrounded by arable land. within the Greater Glasgow NHS District, it has excellent transport links into Glasgow. The other is a wonderfully situated single floor cottage within easy reach of Lanark. A beautiful rural location walking distance of the pristine upper reaches of The Clyde.

The ethos throughout Common Thread is person centred, specialising in attachment and trauma, N.L.P and solution focused skills.
